June Bolan

I met June with Mickey at the Seventh Heaven nightclub in Doncaster at the Christmas Bop (approx 1988) arranged for fans by the Official Marc Bolan Fan Club. When I first saw June, she was walking down the corridor and I saw her from behind. I remember looking at her legs and thinking "these are the legs Marc wrote about in Thunderwing - 'when I saw the legs that I love' " and it was a really powerful moment. I remember a few of us standing with her at the bar and she said "it's strange seeing all these people who look like Marc" and I think it was a bit overwhelming for her. Another girl came and joined us and told June how much she loved Marc. June said "so did I - very much" and it was quite a sober moment. I found it incredible to be so near June and unfortnately so many people felt the same and she found the flash photography overwhelming. In fact, when I took a picture of her and Mickey signing autographs, she said something like "oh no, not again" and I had to back off a bit. It was wonderful to meet her, as she was so important to Marc and had inspired some of his great music, and he called her "the incredible June Child on the cover of Prophets, Seers and Sages. Lovely lady, and so sad that she has died as well.
